Beautiful Bella is a nine-year-old girl who doesn’t see her beauty. She doesn’t feel comfortable in her dark chocolate-colored skin. She sees her long coarse hair as another thing that makes her ugly and different from other girls.
Bella’s view of herself is distorted because of her low self-esteem, desire to look like others, and her need to be accepted by her peers. Bella doesn’t understand beauty has many different looks and shades of color. Making friends is difficult for Bella. This is a lonely place for many youths of all races and backgrounds.
Bella’s mother helps to reshape her self-image, which empowers Bella to see herself differently. Bella learns that beauty is more than what she sees when she looks into the mirror. She learns it’s also what’s in your heart, how you treat people, loving yourself, and loving God.
Pastor Sandra Burnett prays that her book will bless youth to see and understand they are made in God’s image, and they are indeed beautiful!
